February 1820, by I. Bradley of New Bern to Alexander Harper; bill of sale, 9 November 1847,
by Francis Harper of Pitt County to Henry Wingate (two female slaves were sold for $1,000 in
settling the estate of Francis Harper’s father);
record of auction, 1856(?), where the Harper, Harris, and Wingate families were principal buyers
and a boy slave was sold; and a notice, 1873, of the opening of Sarah Dawson’s school.
