Mary Croom Will (Wife of Jesse Croom)

In the name of god Amen Mary Croom of the county of Wayne and state of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory blessed be god for the same do this 7th day of May 1824

Make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form as following that is to say first it is my will that all my just debts be paid out of my estates lie possessed with

  2nd I give and bequeath for the separate & exclusive use and benefit of my daughter Mary Griffin our mare by the name of dolen(?) and one riding chair and one feather bed that I lie on myself and furniture and one cow and calf so that the same shall not be subject to the control of her husband the following property to wit and it is my will & desire that my executors cause the said property so to be settled that my said daughter shall have the benefit there of clare from the control and debts or engagements of her said Husband during her life and at her death that the said property be settled on the children she may leave surviving her.

3ly I give and bequeath for the separate and exclusive use and benefit of my daughter Sarah Coon one negro girl by the name Ginne(?) and one cow and calf so that the same shall not be subject to the control of her Husband the following property to wit and it is my will and desire that my executors cause the said property so to be settled that my said daughter shall have the benefit ther of clare from the control and debts or engagements of her Husband during her life and at her death that the said property be settled on the children she may leave surviving her

4thly I give and bequeath for the separate and exclusive use and benefit of my daughter Zilpha Davis one negro girl by the name Tiller and one cow and calf so that the same shall not be subject to the control of her husband the following property to wit and it is my will and desire that my executors cause the said property so to be settled that my dais daughter shall have the benefit there of clare from the control and debts on engagements of her said husband for her to do with as she please at her death or before

5thly I give and bequeath for the separate and exclusive use and benefit of my grand daughter Nancy White Britt one cow and calf so that the same shall not be subject to the control of her husband the following property to wit and it is my will and desire that my executors cause the said property shall have the benefit thereof clare from the control and debts or engagements of her said husband during her life and at her death that the said property be settled on the children she may leave surviving her

6thly I give and bequeath for the separate and exclusive use and benefit of my grand daughter Mary Croom the daughter of Major Croom one feather bed and furniture one chest and one safe so that the same shall not be subject to the control of her husband the following property to wit and it is my will and desire that my executors cause the said property so to be settled that my said grand daughter shall have the benefit there of

Clare from the control and debts or engagements of her said husband during her life and at her death that the said property be settled on the children she may leave surviving her

And it is my wish will and desire that all my property which I have not already given away to be sold on a six months credit and the money equally divided between Charles Croom Jesse Croom and my daughter Susanna Howell so that the same shall not be subject to the control of her husband the following property to wit and it is my will and desire that my executors cause the said property so to be settled that my said daughter shall have the benefit there of clare from the control and debts or engagement of her said husband during her life and at her death that the said property be settled on the  the children she may leave surviving her

I nominate and appoint my son Charles Croom and Henry Best Executors of this my last will and testament here by ……?…..ing all Will by me made in testament where of I have unto set my hand and ? this day and date above written signed sealed and published by the testaton to be her last will and testament in presents if Mary Griffins property which I gave her is not equal to Charles Croom Jesse Croom and Susanna Howell have it valued and make it equal out of their legacy which I give them in the said will
