Note
From Lizzie Hill email Mar 24: WILLIAM BANNISTER - Marriage: 15 FEB 1820 Wigan, Lancashire In 1841 there is a 20 year old George Hirst, not born in Yorkshire, living next door with Alice’s Bannister in-laws. For a while I had assumed this was a nephew or other such relation of Alice’s but couldn’t find him in the later censuses. UNTIL I made the connection between this George and George BANNISTER in Cowling who was also born in Wigan! Could he be Alice’s SON, either illegitimate or by an earlier marriage? Could George have taken his step-father's name? Sure enough, there is a George Hurst, son of Alice & James Hurst born about the right time in (or very near) Wigan and a marriage of a James Hurst & Alice Whalley in 1813 in Hindle (even nearer Wigan). This is not proof, but isn't impossible and needs checking out from parish records.
