Shared note | From the Braswell list member Nona Williams I received the following information 10/28/98.
She mentions that Isom L. Stephens, 979 Amethyst St. of Layton UT. 84041 did some research and she has found his work reliable.
John Williams born ca. 1673 Isle of Wight Co., Va died in Bertie Co., NC 1758 married Ann____and shows that this John and Ann had a daughter Ann who married a Herring.
Per Bertie Deed Book B, page 223" Ambrose Aires (Ayres) and wife Mary White to Thomas Powell April 8 1727, 15 barrels of pitch for 178 acres, adj. land formerly Col. Robert West's called "New Market" on Cashay Swamp. Witnesses: Samuel Herring, Ann Herring
May court 1727 Col. Robert West by virtue of power of attorney acknowledged in open court.
John Williams deeded lands to his daughter Ann Herring and her heirs, land adj. Thomas Jones. Witnesses Thomas Brown and John Edwards. Source: Ray's Index and Digest to Hathaway s NC History and Genealogy Register by Worth S. Ray.
A Thomas Brown lived on Swift Creek (Near where John Williams and wife Mary Griffin lived) He proved a deed from John Williams Sr to John Williams Jr. at Feb. Court 1757/8 in Edgecombe County Court Minutes.( NC )
Isom believes that John Williams, father of Ann Herring was the son of John Williams and Anne Moore. I think his father was William Williams who died by 1717 in Surry Co., VA. That William had a sister Priscilla who married a West.
