Will of John Herring: 10 June 1672 In the name of God, Amen. being in good and perfect memory.. Give unto my son Anthony two steers at 4 years old and a cow called Brantia, one 2 year old heifer, a small flock bed with a flock pillor for it (May be feather?) One iron pot of 3-4 gallons, one small fowling piece (gun) three dishes, 1 pewter basin, 1 candlestick, 1 pewter flagon, 3 pewter spoons, 1 white earthen salsellor (salt cellar?) and one other boll (bowl) and one sow. And I give to my son Anthony after my debts are paid 3 barrels of tar, half of the crop of tobacco, and leave everything else to my beloved wife Marjorie. I give unto the said child John Whitfield one heifer of one year old. Witnessed by John Vickers, Ambrose Bennett, Thomas Grosse, Edward Lassiter, Jr. John Herring signed with his mark. Will was proved in open court in Isle of Wight by John Vickers and Thomas Gross on 20 June 1672 and recorded. John also appointed Marjorie as his executor.
