p. 79 Stephen Cobb (1735-1785), born in Bertie County, North Carolina, was one of the state’s wealthiest merchant-farmers.  At the time of his death he owned 3800 acres in Pitt, Edgecombe, and Wayne Counties, 2120 acres and an iron foundry in Nash County, 41 slaves, and a sizeable personal estate.  During the Revolution, he served as a Captain in the North Carolina Militia in Wayne County.  After the war, he was one of the commissioners appointed to build the court house in Wayne County and a member of the North Carolina State Council in 1784.  His pedigree is shown on Chart #18.
