p. 7 In early deeds and records of early Virginia, we find the name of Slaughter as far back as 1635, when John Slaughter took out a patent for land 30 May 1635.

The Coat of Arms of the Slaughter Family is found on a seal to a bond of William Slaughter, as sheriff 1685; examined by the editor, in Essex County Clerk’s office; answering, in burke’s LANDED GENTRY, to Slaughters of Gloucester and Worcester. Arms: A saltire azure”.
