Jesse Aycock was born about.. 1743, based upon the birth dates of his children. The will of Jesse, dated November 7, 1822, probated 1823, gave detailed instructions regarding the disposition of his property, and naming James and Simon Aycock as executors of his will.
The children of Jesse, as named in his will, were Ephraim, Simon, Solomon, Ann Newsom, Elias, Timothy, Jesse, Benjamin and James. Grandchildren named in his will were Daniel Aycock, Joel, Nancy and Penelope Newsom, Jesse and John Newsom, Zilpha Newsom, and Elizabeth Wilkison. After the naming of specific bequests, Jesse left the balance of his estate to be equally divided among all his grandchildren.
Earliest record we have of Jesse is his service in Colonel Benjamin Exum’s Company during the American Revolution.5 in 1778 Jesse Aycock acquired 900 acres of land in Dobbs County, North Carolina,4 and on October 25, 1782, he received a North Carolina land grant of 150 acres—on the south side of the Great Swamp, adjoining his own line.5 Jesse continued to
purchase land in Wayne County through the year 1816.
From 1836 to 1843, after the death of Jesse’s wife, Patience, suits were brought against Simon Aycock, surviving executor of Jesse Aycock1s will,
on behalf of the grandchildren. In these court papers we find named most of the grandchildren of Jesse.
Three of the sons of Jesse—James, Simon and Timothy—remained in North Carolina. Jesse, Jr., Solomon, Elias, Benjamin and Ephraim moved to Georgia.
Jesse Aycock, Jr., can be found in Jefferson County, Georgia, as early as 1799, when he is listed as liable to serve as petit juror. Solomon Aycock is named in the will of William Folkes, Sr., November 27, 1807, probated July 3, 1315, Jefferson County.
Elias is found in the 1820 and 1830 Laurens County census records. Benjamin Aycock can be found in Wilkinson County as early as 1809, when he is listed on the membership roll of Ramah Primitive Baptist Church with wife Eliza “Elizabeth” Proctor.
Ephraim Aycock is living in Randolph County in 1340 and 1850 and can be found in the census records. We have not been able to find proof of the first wife of Jesse Aycock; however, the will of John Newsom, 1790, Johnston County, North Carolina, and the will of Patience Aycock, 1824, probate 1828,
Wayne County, North Carolina, prove her to be the wife of Jesse Aycock, married to him probably about 1792.
