In 1779 Jesse Harper applied for one 100 acres on the north side of the Trent. The grant issued in 1784 included “his own improvements” indicating he had been on the land for some time. A grant of 41 acres to Jesse Harper in 1805 lay on both sides of “Little Deep Run” adjoining his own land and Nathan Harper’s.

In 1788 Nathan Harper was granted 150 acres on the north side of the Trent adjoining his land, Jesse Harper’s and Jesse Cobb’s and fifty acres on the south side of the Trent adjoining his land, Robert Ivey’s Edward Ervin’s Michael and Stephen Herrings.

In 1805, grants were made to Jesse Harper, Jr. for one hundred acres on the north side of the Trent adjoining his own land, Nathan Byrd’s, Lott Croom’s, for 44 acres adjoining his land and that of Lott Croom and Zachariah Davis, and for 35 acres joining his land, David George’s and that of Jesse Harper, Sr. Nathan and Jesse Harper, Sr. served as chain bearers. Later grants and purchases added considerably to Harper holdings, much of which is retained by descendants today. Love of freedom, privacy, and independence are strongly characteristic of the Harpers; they work and fight hard for these rights. (Wayne Co. Heritage) Jesse’s land joined Nathan’s in 1794.
